Princesses in the army: these royal ladies undergo military training

These eminences exchanged their pumps and tiaras for camouflage clothing.

At the end of 2022, our own royal family unveiled a series of snapshots of Crown Princess Amalia, who was introduced to our three branches of Defense in preparation for the throne. But elsewhere in Europe, the next generation of queens is taking an even more rigorous approach.

Princess Victoria: special training

The Swedish kungahuset recently announced that Princess Victoria will begin special officer training later this year to brush up on her military knowledge. It is not the first time that Vic has ventured into a set of combat boots and camouflage clothing: she completed her basic training in 2003.

“The Crown Princess will begin special officer training during the fall of 2024 to gain a deeper understanding of tactics, military science, and military strategy,” the Swedish court said. With this, the Crown Princess wants to prepare herself for a future role as head of state. So far, King Carl Gustaf has not given any signals that he wants to relinquish the throne, but whatever. Vic knows a sensible girl is ready for anything!

Princess Leonor: three-year training

In Spain, the incumbent monarch is also commander-in-chief of the Spanish army. And that is why it is a shame that you allow yourself to be tortured for three years among your fellow recruits during intensive military training. Princess Leonor has now been studying at the Academia General Militar in Zaragoza, where she started last August.

When she finishes here, she will have two more years in the Spanish Navy and Air Force planned. In between, the Spanish court also generously distributes snapshots of the princess. From family farewells to serious ceremonies: we have plenty of snapshots of the princess in her uniform. She seems to like it all, and daddy Felipe’s proud look when he can appear next to his eldest in a matching uniform? That speaks volumes.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra: suffering in service

The fact that the Norwegians take the service of their second-in-line very seriously was evident from the birthday portrait they shared of their princess this year. No gala photo or family snapshot for Princess Ingrid Alexandra, but an image where the princess can be seen au naturel in her army clothes.

Allegedly, the princess would be treated exactly the same as her fellow soldiers, and that means suffering! “Ingrid has to scrub the floor, make the beds and attend classes. We have the same expectations of her as we do of all our other soldiers,” an insider reportedly told the Norwegian newspaper NRK.

Princess Elisabeth: steadfast soldier

The Belgian Princess Elisabeth has now completed her one-year army training. She is now studying History and Politics at Oxford, but she clearly could not let go of army life completely.

For example, last year several sources reported that the princess would not enjoy a summer holiday, but would go to camp with her former fellow students. For this she even followed a set of extra training courses, to ensure that she was actually allowed to work with all the state of the art gadgets of the Belgian army. For Elisabeth, her role as future Queen of the Belgians also means that in time she will become commander-in-chief of the Belgian army. And she clearly takes that task very seriously!
