Do you travel a lot? Then you have probably noticed the following. During boarding you get the feeling that you are being watched very closely by the staff. That may well be true. Via Quora, flight attendants have revealed what exactly they are looking at. Are you also curious about what that is?
The flight staff will look at this when you board
1. Be strong enough
It may sound like a great excuse to check out someone’s muscles, but it can actually be very useful on a plane. Once you know whether a passenger is physically strong, this person can come in handy during a problem with the flight. As soon as the crew sees someone who is muscular, powerful, strong and fit, they try to remember what they look like and where they sit. If a situation is threatening, they ask these people – if necessary – if they want to help. Of course you hope this doesn’t happen, but you can never be completely sure.
2. Whether you work for an airline
It is useful to remember where exactly the people who work at an airline are located. These people are trained in what to do in an emergency.
3. Whether you are drunk or unwell
When boarding you must show your boarding pass. Apparently this isn’t just to help you find your seat or make sure you’re on board. It is mainly to check whether you are drunk. Flight staff often greet travelers in a friendly manner and then they listen carefully to the person’s response. We also often check whether someone is sick, because you obviously don’t want to get infected on the plane.
4. Fear of flying
It is often immediately clear whether someone has a fear of flying. That person is full of tears, sleeping pills and a shaking body. The flight staff would like to know if you suffer from a fear of flying, so that they can help that person if necessary.
5. Whether you have a visible disability
People are checked to see if they have a visible disability, so that they are not placed next to the emergency exit. These people must be physically able to open a heavy door in an emergency. In addition, it is immediately checked whether additional support or assistance is needed during an emergency.
6. Or you’re trying to do something illegal
By illegal we mean smuggling something like pets in your handbag. After putting on your ‘welcome face’, you must always be alert as staff. It still requires some effort and concentration to keep an eye on all the above points.
