Ha! King Willem-Alexander mocks ‘photo-gate’ Kate

Our king’s witty Dutch humor has not escaped the notice of the British press.

This week we were all captivated by the photo fail surrounding Kate’s Mother’s Day snapshot. And just when you think things have calmed down a bit, a Dutch king comes along with a dose of Dutch humor.

On the heel

It turns out that our own royals have also experienced the fuss surrounding the edited snapshot. In fact, we bet that the Dutch royal family will think twice before burning their fingers with Photoshop.

For the time being, King Willem-Alexander can laugh about it, because during a working visit to Zutphen this week he joked about the incident when he spoke to a group of children. When one of the children tells the king that she saw him in a photo with his entire family, Willem-Alexander says: “Really? At least I didn’t photoshop!”

Although initially it was simply speculation and nonsense on social media, it turned out that the latter question in particular had also been asked by prestigious press agencies. It didn’t take long until several media outlets withdrew their publication of the photo, saying it had clearly been edited.

Although the British generally stick to their motto never complain, never explain, this time it seems that they have repented. They eventually shared their sincere apologies for this mistake via the Instagram Stories on the official account of the Prince and Princess of Wales. All’s well that ends well! Although we fear that WimLex will not be the last person to offend Kate with this…
