Applying concealer under your eyes doesn’t sound like a very difficult step in your makeup routine. Yet there is a right way to do it. Applying your concealer with a brush can make a huge difference. We explain why and how you can try this out yourself.
Why is a brush better for under the eyes?
Under your eyes you probably want a little more coverage. You may want to hide the fact that you haven’t slept very long and thus look a little more awake. What you want most with concealer is to get as much coverage as possible from as little product as possible. The tricky thing with concealer is that applying too much product can make your makeup look very cakey. And especially under the eyes this is noticeable and does not look nice. For this reason, we recommend that you use a concealer brush under your eyes.
This is how you apply concealer under your eyes with a brush
Start by performing your usual routine up to the point of applying concealer under your eyes. Now grab your desired concealer. This can be a liquid concealer but also a cream concealer. Apply a little of the concealer to the back of your hand. This gives you more control over how much product you actually use. Now take your concealer brush and dip it into your concealer. We recommend a concealer brush that is cut diagonally for the finest use, such as this one from Zoeva. Make sure you work the concealer well into the bristles. Now apply the concealer under your eyes. It is best to only apply the concealer to the places where you need coverage. So you don’t have to spread it very far. Concealer gets a little more coverage if you let it dry a bit before blending it. So wait a while before blending and do another step of your routine in the meantime. Now you can blend the concealer with a clean concealer brush or with your finger. Do not smear, but work with tapping movements. This keeps the product where you really want it. Now you can see if you are satisfied with the coverage. If this is not the case, you can apply another layer of concealer. Once you have finished this, you can powder the concealer with a light, colorless powder.
