Va-va-voom-voluminous ‘fluffy hair’ is the hair trend of the summer!

Stylish and simple!

From old money bob to palm beach blonde – there have been quite a few hair trends this year. As is often the case, trends also borrow extensive inspiration from icons of the past, and the new ‘fluffy hair’ trend is absolutely no exception. Think Farrah Fawcett, think Diana Ross, think big, bigger, biggest!

Fluffy hair

A voluminous haircut is never really out of fashion. But in 2024 we are returning en masse to the divas and disco heroines of the last century. For example, Glamor UK writes that the hashtag #fluffyhair now has more than 1.2 billion (!) views on TikTok.

Dom Seeley, hairstylist to the stars, also sees that a haircut full of volume is gaining popularity again. “It is inspired by the 70s and 80s, think of Farrah Fawcett but more modern, or the disco divas of the sixties.” As current examples he mentions Matilda Djerf and Solange Knowles.

Hairstylist Dionne Smith explains that such a fluffy cut should be ‘long, fluffy and voluminous’. “It should have a casual, feather-light texture that creates a weightless and airy look.”

Golden tip

The best thing about this hair trend is that you can go in just about any direction with it. “It’s a lot easier to do than you might think because it’s all in how you brush out your hair,” says Dom. “You can achieve a fluffy hairstyle with almost all hair lengths, as long as you have enough layers to achieve that volume. If you have everything at one length, it becomes more difficult to achieve that fluffy texture,” he explains.

Do you have straight or slightly wavy locks? Then this look is the easiest to achieve. A simple texture spray and a hairbrush can go a long way! “Start with slightly damp hair, and use a hairdryer with a round brush. Divide your hair into sections and go through your hair strand by strand,” says Dionne. The key is using the round brush correctly. Run this down and out through your locks in a circular motion, and make sure, especially in the strands around your face, that you brush it out well at the bottom with a flick.

In short: with a little practice you will soon feel like a modern disco diva. We love!
