This all went wrong at William and Kate’s royal wedding

Even at such a royal wedding, things sometimes go wrong…

With a budget of several tens of millions of pounds, hundreds of people involved and several centuries of traditions to fall back on, you might think that William and Kate’s beautiful royal wedding went off without a hitch. Nothing could be further from the truth. Especially for their thirteenth anniversary, we look back on the near-misses of this big day.

Spotlights

Let’s be honest: of course the Waleses can look back on a beautiful wedding. As any couple can attest, no wedding goes 100% to plan. But that doesn’t make the big day any less beautiful!

Ring moment

After the yes and the kiss, the ring moment is one of the most beautiful moments of the wedding. This almost went wrong during the royal wedding. The groom almost couldn’t fit the ring that was too small on Kate’s fingers. She ordered the ring in a smaller size because her engagement ring kept falling off. After turning it a bit, the ring went on the finger, but William must have felt a bit short of breath during this moment. In any case, Kate’s face speaks volumes:

Panic Attack

William was so nervous about the big day that it all became a bit too much for him. Former royalty journalist Duncan Larcombe told ELLE UK that all the nerves even gave him a mild panic attack: “William and Harry were getting ready at Westminster Abbey. We were sitting nearby and at one point William walked past with a terrified look. He also took a very deep breath.” With all the media attention, we can understand that William had to pull himself together.

Years later, Prince Harry would reveal again in his book Spare how nervous his brother was before the big day. “When I picked him up that morning, he looked like he hadn’t slept a wink. His face was exhausted, his eyes red,” said Haz.

Itchy witness

In Spare, Harry also revealed that as a witness he also had a problem: during an expedition earlier that week, his crown jewels had fallen prey to an early stage of frostbite. For example, the Duke candidly shared that his ‘nether regions’ were unpleasantly sensitive at the time of the wedding. “What did the universe want to prove to me by taking away my penis at the same time as my brother?” the poetic prince said in his memoirs.

Photobomb

The balcony scene is the moment for the photographers, everyone wants to take the most beautiful photo. Unfortunately, bridesmaid Grace van Cutsem did not want to cooperate and it was almost impossible to take a perfect picture. The little girl couldn’t handle the noise of the crowd anymore and put her hands over her ears to muffle the sound. Unfortunately, she was standing right next to Kate, so in every photo she appears with a grumpy face and her hands over her ears. A real photobomb.
