With the enthusiastic encouragement of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven!
A lot of fun in the skating temple Thialf yesterday. This is where the start of the so-called Dutch 100 took place, a sporting charity event for research into lymphatic cancer, which was founded by Prince Bernhard. Of course, a lot of Dutch players were also present here – on the ice and along the line.
Dutch 100
Since 2015, Bernhard junior has been organizing the Dutch 100: a grueling duathlon that participants complete partly by bike and partly by skating. The proceeds from this sporting effort go to the organization Lymph&Co, which raises money for research into lymphatic cancer.
The prince came to this idea after he was diagnosed with a form of lymphatic cancer. Since then, it has been a permanent fixture on the Van Vollenhovens’ calendar every spring: no fewer than 90 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of skating. And hey, if you don’t tie on the irons yourself, you can always prove yourself to be a committed cheerleader, right?
Thialf
Yesterday, many Oranje-Nassaus (and other well-known faces) came to Heerenveen for the eighth edition of the Dutch 100. We of course saw organizer Prince Bernhard zoom past smoothly on the ice and cheerfully posing for a snapshot with his mother, Princess. Margriet…

…Princess Annette also managed to hold her own well on the skates…

…Lucas, the eldest son of Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène, decided to inspect the ice up close…

…And Pieter van Vollenhoven came to Friesland with a camera at the ready.

Who knows how many nice snapshots of his offspring and grandchildren the proud (grand)father has taken for the family album!
Bicycle
After the necessary laps on the ice, it was time for the second part of the duathlon: a hefty 90 kilometers by bike! Princess Annette and her son, Benjamin van Vollenhoven, were photographed here. The sporty family is clearly looking forward to it!

Charity
Now all those sporting achievements are of course all well and good, but ultimately this is about a good cause. And via Instagram, Prince Bernhard shares that he is very proud of the proceeds for Lymp&Co.

The prince poses with the check next to other well-known faces such as Simon Keizer and Marianne Timmer. In total, the campaign raised more than 300,000 euros. Phew!
“Dear Bikkels, supporters, volunteers, sponsors, donors and everyone who was at the 8th edition of De Hollandse 100… How fantastic it was!”, the photo can read. “With this amount we can really boost Prof. Floris Foijer’s groundbreaking research into better treatment of lymphoma,” the organization also writes.
In short: top atmosphere, top performance, and top yield. Triple success, that Dutch 100!
