‘I was very sad after our divorce, both of us’
When Leontine Ruiters divorced Marco Borsato four years ago, her life was turned upside down. As a guest of Robbert Rodenburg, in the YouTube series Open Kaart, she candidly tells her story.
Great love
Leontine laughs when Robbert asks her whether they are open to new love. “Marco has been a great love of mine,” she says. Yet the marriage failed after 22 years. “I was very sad after our divorce, both of us. There was still a lot of love, there is still a lot of love,” Leontine adds. But still, divorce seemed like the right decision. “I really had to choose for myself.”
In the interview she shares how she brought herself down by always taking others into account. After the break with Marco, she decided that it was high time to get started on it.
Processing process
In the first years after the divorce, Leontine did not fully realize what had happened. Only later did it really sink in. “I felt very good during the first two years after the divorce and I strongly supported my choice. And I still do that,” says Leontine. “Just dealing with the real thing and the real realization that you are no longer a family, or at least a family in a different form, that really hits home at a certain point.”
New love
After the whole process, Leontine is still single. She has worked hard on herself to regain her footing. “I went to the doctor and started looking for help. I did EMDR, I went on hormones, I went on medication. And ultimately I saw it as an opportunity to work on myself,” she explains.
Does she need a new love? She is certainly open to that in the future. Although she felt a lot of love for Marco, she believes that someone else will come her way. “I also believe that a great love will come my way, absolutely,” says Leontine. Who knows which man will win her heart!
