Ugh, having a cold is so annoying. Your nose is closed so you have to breathe through your mouth and your voice probably doesn’t sound the same anymore. You want to get rid of that quickly. This is how you open a closed nose again.
Use a humidifier to open your nose
A humidifier can be a quick and easy tool to reopen your nose. The device turns water into moisture that enters the air, hence the name humidifier. Breathing the moist air can relieve the irritation. It can also help to go for warm, moist air.
Take a warm shower
Don’t have a humidifier? Then taking a warm shower can also help. When you have a cold, do you always feel that you can breathe better after a warm shower? That is possible, because steam is very nice if you have a cold. Steam can thin the accumulated snot and reduce irritation. This allows you to breathe normally again, at least for a while.
Stay well hydrated
When you have a cold it is very important that you keep yourself well hydrated. This ensures that your snot can become thinner and therefore pass through more easily. This also relieves pressure and less pressure means less irritation.
Use a saline spray for a stuffy nose
When dealing with a cold, a logical solution that many people tend to use is to use a spray. We completely understand this, but it can still be very addictive. If you become addicted to nasal spray, this can also be harmful to your health. If you would like to use a spray, we recommend opting for a saline solution. This hydrates the inside of your nose, which thins your snot. So it actually has the same effect as drinking more water, but this works a lot faster. So if you want to get rid of your cold quickly, this is the best solution in our opinion. Keep in mind that this is not a permanent solution and that your cold still needs time to go away completely.
Use a heat compress
Heat helps against a cold. You can use a heat pack to open your nostrils from the outside. If you don’t have a compress, you can make one yourself by soaking a towel or washcloth in warm water and then applying it to your face. Make sure to squeeze out the remaining water before putting it on your face!
