How to keep your valuables safe on holiday

Are you going on holiday this summer? Then you want to make sure that you and your valuables return home safely. This is how you can keep your valuables safe during your holiday.

Do not use bags that are easy to steal from

If you are on holiday in a big city or another tourist area, it is wise to keep a close eye on your belongings. Thieves can lurk anywhere. If you are in a tourist area, there is also a good chance that there are thieves walking around who use specific tricks to get to your belongings. So always be alert and do not lose sight of your belongings. In addition, do not use a bag that people can easily put their hands in. Think of open shoulder bags such as tote bags. Backpacks also pose a risk. There is a good chance that you will not notice if someone walks behind you and takes something from your front pocket. Go for a cross-body bag or a hip bag. These are a lot less easy to steal. In addition, choose a bag with zippers or other closures that take more time to open. Only a button is too easy.

Only take the bare essentials with you on your trip

Are you going on holiday? Then leave your valuables in your hotel or apartment if you don’t need them. Think of your passport, your house keys (for your house in the Netherlands) and that expensive camera that you probably won’t touch anyway. The less stuff you have with you that can be stolen, the better. Store all your important stuff in your bag in a place where they are not easy to grab. Think of a side pocket inside your bag, for example. This also prevents a pickpocket from quickly walking past you and grabbing your wallet.

Pack as few valuables as possible in your checked baggage

During your trip to your holiday destination, it is also wise to keep all your valuables close to you. Put all your important items in your bag or suitcase that you take with you into the cabin. If your suitcase gets lost during the trip, you will not lose your most important items. You can also put a tracker in your suitcase to see where it is if something goes wrong. But even then we advise you to keep expensive and important items close to you.

Don’t leave your belongings alone on the beach

When you go to the beach, it is not strange if you want to swim. But what do you do with your stuff? Well, take it with you into the water. Nowadays, you can buy many different types of water bags with which you can simply go into the water with your phone and other stuff. This way you avoid the risk of someone walking past your stuff and running off with your phone. In addition, you do not have to ask someone to stay with your stuff, which also saves hassle.
