Housing associations often mess around with things, but this time it is really wrong. Residents of a housing complex in South Holland have literally been in the shit for a year. What? They have been suffering from a regularly clogged sewer pipe for a year now. As a result, poop and pee regularly flow through the storage room. Ew!
Clogged sewer pipe
In the South Holland town of Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel you will find the De Wilg housing complex, where residents of the housing complex are currently experiencing quite a few problems. All this due to a regularly clogged sewer pipe. When the sewer pipe is clogged, a true “shit explosion” occurs and the storage room is flooded with poop and pee. Damn! The shit can also come up outside through the tiles. OMG. And the residents, including Herman, have been suffering from this for a year. While a broken sewer pipe does not seem to be a major problem. Yet housing association Woonbron has not yet done anything with it, according to a report by Hart van Nederland.
According to resident Herman, the residents in the housing complex try to mask off holes and caps themselves. Only it doesn’t help at all. “It will come out anyway, even from under the tiles,” says Herman. Shit!
“Shit Explosion”
This regularly causes a “shit explosion” and the residents of the housing complex are now completely fed up. They feel they are not taken seriously by housing construction. The moment when a resident in a wheelchair had to drive through shit went “too far”, according to Herman. That was the moment to take action. And it seems to help, because the housing association finally seems to be doing something. In a response to Hart van Nederland, the housing sector acknowledges the inconvenience and frustration of residents. The statement states that they have “preventively flushed the pipes to prevent inconvenience to residents”. “We have also prepared an emergency measure, which our contractor will deliver next Monday [29 januari, red.] starts,” said the spokesperson.
The housing development promises to improve the sewer pipe and will replace part of it. Although as far as Herman and his wife are concerned it is ‘first seeing, then believing’. Of course, they hope for the best, because: “It really is an untenable situation.”
