Albert also reveals how he got his great love into trouble at the time.
If we are to believe the fairy tales, a relationship with a prince charming can only really start with love at first sight. However, that really does not have to be the case, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene have revealed in a rare joint interview.
Albert and Charlene
Two Olympic athletes, who met at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition and made their relationship official at the 2006 Turin Olympic Games. To say that sport has been an important factor in the relationship of the Princely Couple of Monaco is an understatement.
Earlier this month, the couple did a double interview with the magazine Paris Match on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Paris. In it, they look back on their very first meeting and reveal how Albert ‘got his new flame into trouble’ at the time.
First meeting
“We met during the Mare Nostrum. I’m not sure if we fell in love then,” Albert tells the French magazine. “After that, I didn’t see Charlene for a few years…”
But it was clear that the swimmer had made an impression on him. SAS looks back: “First of all, I thought she was an excellent swimmer, and secondly, I always thought she was a friendly, cheerful and kind person.”

Problems
In those early days of their relationship, Albert even accidentally got Charlene into trouble, he says. “We had a great time. I don’t know if I should say it, but that night I got her into a bit of trouble because I didn’t get her home on time.”
A laughing Charlene adds: “Yes, it’s true I had some problems that night, but we’re not going to tell you all about it.” Ooh la la!
Oh well, a long-overdue date with a prince who slowly wins your heart…not a bad reason to get your ass kicked, right?
