Warm and wintery near the Christmas tree!
Finally, the time has come: the second photo session of the year with the entire royal family. Next to King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia (at home during her gap year) and Princess Ariane (just back from her Italian boarding school) pose with their dog Mambo near the Christmas tree in front of Huis ten Bosch Palace.

We had to wait a while this year, but today the moment finally arrived: the entire royal family was complete again, and that meant that a quick photo session could be scheduled at the last minute before the new year.
This time the snapshots were taken on the square in front of Huis ten Bosch Palace, where the royal Christmas tree has been shining in full regalia for a while. Although the attractively decorated tree remains out of the picture in most snapshots and there are certainly no snow-white Christmas scenes this week in our cold little country, the Oranjes have still done their best to appear nice and wintery.
Winter outfits
Of course, there was plenty of speculation in advance in the editors about the outfits that the royal family would wear. Our thoughts were already on the endless glamorous Christmas snaps that we have seen from various other royal families in recent weeks. Would Amalia perhaps want to recycle her green dress from Budget Day 2021? Will Amalia pull another mother’s designer dress from the archives?
We were a bit disappointed with these winter woolen coat outfits, but oh well. They have remained so nice and normal, nun?
As we often see, the princesses and their mother borrowed a lot from each other. For example, Fashion Queen Máxima reports that Princess Alexia’s blue coat has previously been worn by both Máxima and Amalia, and that Princess Ariane’s green Max Mara coat also comes from her mother’s wardrobe.
With the tree in the background, the photos immediately have a festive edge…
…and the dog Mambo provides some extra sweet snapshots, just like during the summer photo session!
Well, rain or shine, glam or no glam, it is of course still nice to see the princesses shine in front of the cameras again. Moreover, it turns out that our editorial colleagues were correct with some predictions. For example, Grazia’s online coordinator Christel shared that she was betting on a nice Christmasy, red outfit. Et voilà !
Glamials online coordinator Sandy also gambled on a borrowed outfit for Princess Alexia…
And Marie Claire’s Sabine turned out to be right on the head when she predicted that green velvet would appear on the scene – and thanks to Princess Ariane’s stylish trousers, she was right!
Of course, the ladies also had to pose separately from their father, although the wind here, just like last summer, caused quite a few windblown locks.
And of course the king and crown princess had to be photographed separately!

All in all, the ladies did their best in their jewel tones, but we were still hoping for just a little more glamour. Of course, the Oranjes cannot help it that an autumnal storm has just passed by and the atmospheric winter scenes are hard to find, but would a photo session in festive clothes be too much to ask? Or perhaps a cozy Santa hat here or there? It doesn’t have to be that difficult to bring a little life into the brewery. Sobriety is still possible all year round!
We’ll start keeping our fingers crossed for the Christmas photos of 2024.
