Georgina Verbaan kept deceased cat in freezer

Losing a pet is anything but easy. Actress Georgina Verbaan spoke candidly in her podcast about saying goodbye to her cat. But she also said that she kept the animal in the freezer for a while.

Cat in the freezer

In a new episode of her podcast Pepijn en Georgina, Georgina Verbaan talked about the loss of her cat. The episode revolved around the theme of loss and the deceased cat was discussed. Georgina said that she had the animal put to sleep at home. She added to this story that she kept the cat in the freezer for a week after it had died. “But I still took him out every night to lie on the couch with him and say goodbye and cry,” she says. “At one point I thought: it might not be completely healthy to do that anymore, but I did it anyway.”

This action by Verbaan was discussed extensively at Shownieuws. There were mixed opinions about how she dealt with the loss of her cat. Patrick Martens thought it was sweet, while Bart Ettekoven found it ‘rather striking’. During a broadcast of Vandaag Inside, Johan Derksen also touched on the subject. “If you get a dog, you know that the moment will come that it will die and then a family member dies. A cat too… But you don’t put your dead animal in the fridge or freezer. You don’t do that”, said Derksen. Johan also said the following: “If she puts her pussy in it, I’ll come and pet it in the evening.”

During an interview with Shownieuws, Georgina was asked about her reaction to Derksen’s comment. She hadn’t heard the comment yet but responded: “Johan Derksen? Oh, how sweet…”

Georgina Verbaan responds

After Georgina found out that her frozen cat had caused quite a stir, she responded to all the commotion with a video on Instagram. “Apparently I am a danger to myself and society,” she says. Actress Carice van Houten supported Verbaan in a response to her post. “You don’t have to apologize. Let them talk ❤️,” she wrote. Georgina herself finds the criticism ridiculous. She explained that many households also have kilos of meat in the freezer, which according to the actress is actually much worse.
