Piercings are fun, hip and a real statement about who you are. Most piercings are completely safe. It is of course important that when a piercing has just been done, you keep it clean. This will prevent the piercing from becoming infected. After a while you will have a nicely healed piercing. There are also piercings that are not so safe. Before you get one of those piercings, it is useful to read this.

Tongue piercing
In principle, a normal tongue piercing does not cause any problems. Nowadays there is also a new variant of the tongue piercing: the snake eye piercing. This goes horizontally through the middle of your tongue. The snake eye piercing is a bit more dangerous. Many piercers refuse to perform these. This piercing ties two tongue muscles together. This ensures that they no longer move separately from each other. The placement of the piercing also damages your teeth and gums.

Ear piercings
A piercing in your earlobe is not dangerous. If you have a cartilage piercing in your ear, it is possible that unpleasant consequences may arise more quickly. If such a piercing becomes infected (which happens quickly), it may lead to avascular necrosis and perichondritis. This then causes severe deformations such as cauliflower ear. This is permanent and plastic surgery is required for recovery.

Are belly button piercings dangerous?
Scar
A navel piercing is innocent in itself. However, a warning applies here too. It’s like this: a belly button piercing leaves a scar. The scar tissue consists of collagen fibers. This ensures that a scar closes quickly. This also means that the scar is not as flexible. The longer your body has time to heal, the smoother it becomes. Then your body has more time to arrange the fibers. This does not work well for everyone. The scar is therefore not always flexible. When such a scar is and remains stiff, part of your abdomen no longer moves properly.
Impact on your fertility
A navel piercing is harmless in itself. However, a warning applies here too. The thing is, a belly button piercing leaves a scar.
Over time, an adhesion may develop in your abdomen. This starts with your intestines. This makes your intestines move more difficult and function more difficult. As a result, you may have stomach pain, flatulence or diarrhea. Your intestines are above your uterus. It sometimes happens that the connective tissue between the intestines and the uterus becomes stuck. This makes your uterus less flexible and functions slightly worse. If this is the case, it may affect your fertility. Fortunately, this happens very rarely if ever, so no worries, a navel piercing will not suddenly make you infertile.
