The fairy tale of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia

That’s how the two met.

When Swedish Prince Carl Philip took a liking to glamor model and reality TV star Sofia Hellqvist in 2010, there were quite a few people who showed that they were not entirely in favor of this. Still, the two proved that their love turned out to be strong. The two have now been together for about fourteen years and have been married for more than eight years, but how did this fairytale come about?

Questionable encounter

The son of Swedish King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia met Sofia through mutual friends in 2010. Prince Carl Philip’s parents and sister, Crown Princess Victoria, were not entirely behind him when it turned out that he fell for Sofia.

Sofia had worked for years as a bikini model and was also a participant in the reality program Paradise Hotel. In this program, single men and women stay in a luxury resort on a tropical island. They form couples and compete to see who can stay on the island the longest, but a number of things also happen between the singles that you can probably guess…

Spicy images

During Sofia’s participation in the program, several spicy images of her circulated in the Swedish media. Despite these images and the opinion of Carl’s family, the two decide to start dating. We can say that the two have completely fallen for each other, because they have been together for about fourteen years now.

The engagement

In 2014, Carl got down on one knee in front of Sofia and asked her to marry him. He says at the time that he was very nervous and lay awake several times during the night. He asked Sofia to marry him early in the morning, to which her answer was of course a yes.

A fairytale wedding

On June 13, 2015, the time has come: Prince Carl Philip and Sofia will tie the knot in Slottskyrkan in Stockholm. Sofia is wearing a brand new diamond and emerald tiara that she received especially for the wedding from her new parents-in-law, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Fortunately, we can now say that the royal couple has turned around a bit. With this gesture they indicate that they accept Sofia into the royal family.

Family expansion

In the years that followed, the family expanded. The couple has now had three sons.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia will become parents of their first son, Prince Alexander, on April 19, 2016. Not much later they are expecting a second child. Their second son Prince Gabriel was born on August 31, 2017. Their third son will follow in 2021, with little Prince Julian being born on March 26, 2021.

We think this love story is all too sweet and wish the family lots of happiness!
