This is how you deal with sweaty feet in the summer

In the summer we all get hot, that’s logical. And when we get hot, we can start to sweat. For under our armpits we have deodorant to make sure we don’t start to stink. But how do you actually solve this problem for your feet? This is how to deal with sweaty feet in the summer.

Wear shoes that allow your feet to breathe

When it is warm, it is best to let your skin breathe well. This allows the sweat to escape and not build up. This build up causes an unpleasant feeling and of course also smell. Open shoes are the best to wear when your feet start to sweat quickly. Think sandals, slip-ons and slippers. If this is not entirely appropriate for where you are going, then mesh sneakers are also a very good option. Avoid shoes made of plastic, rubber or synthetic leather.

Also consider the socks you wear

If you wear shoes and have to wear socks in them, it is also good to think about the sock you choose. Go for materials such as nylon or polyester. Wool is also a good option, even though this sounds contradictory. Wool absorbs moisture quickly, which keeps your feet dry and cool. Avoid cotton socks in particular. If your feet sweat a lot during the day, it is not a bad idea to put an extra pair of socks in your bag. Then you can change your socks halfway through the day for a fresh and dry feeling.

Fight sweat with foot powder

Bacteria thrive in a moist and warm environment. This makes sweaty feet the ideal place for these bacteria to grow. A foot powder helps to absorb the moisture and also helps with the odor. If you suffer from sweaty feet in the summer, it is certainly not a bad idea to put some foot powder in your socks before putting them on. If necessary, you can do this daily, or only on days when your feet produce extra sweat. Think of during sports or during a day out.

Embrace antiperspirant

You know about underarm deodorant, but do you also know about foot deodorant? It exists! There are many different products that serve as antiperspirant for your feet. An antiperspirant differs from a deodorant in that it prevents sweating. A deodorant only masks the smell. If you prefer to keep your feet dry all day, using an antiperspirant for your feet is a very good idea.

Wash your feet thoroughly and regularly

Finally, there is of course the aftercare. The reality is that your feet will most likely sweat during the day. Even if you use products to counteract this, some sweat will probably be released. To prevent unpleasant odors or even infections, it is very good to wash your feet thoroughly and regularly. For example, you can give them a foot bath to soak in every now and then. But we also definitely recommend washing them thoroughly with soap in the shower.
