Shit, things aren’t going so well for Eva Hermans-Kroot (26) from Over Mijn Lijk. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021 and has had 12 (!) different treatments since then. But all that chemo and pills are really starting to take their toll. Eva is broken, nauseous and has to throw up a lot. That’s why she has now made a difficult decision: she’s stopping chemo.

Stopping chemo
Eva shares a photo on Instagram in which she can be seen crying. She writes the following text with the photo: “Because it is simply too hard and because my quality of life suffers from it. The doctor understood this and so I am stopping this treatment.”
Not quite done with treatments after all
But wait, this doesn’t mean Eva is going to stop everything completely. She’s going to start her old pill regimen again. This ensures that the cancer doesn’t grow like crazy. And as if that wasn’t enough, Eva hopes to be able to start an experimental treatment soon. Then she would get another regimen in addition to her old pills. Exciting, because no one knows if it will work. Plus, the side effects are not mild. For example, anemia, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting are on the list. Still, Eva is hopeful that it will all be fine. She will soon hear whether she gets the green light for this experimental treatment. Fingers crossed!
Bright spot: Eva is feeling a little better
Fortunately, there is also a small silver lining in this intense story. Eva writes that she is feeling a bit better now. That is good to hear! Because man, that girl has had to endure so much. Hats off to her perseverance and positivity, they are truly special. Let’s hope that the new treatments work! Lots of strength Eva.
