Worth a try, we think.
The drugstore shelves are full of products that promise voluminous hairstyles and Rapunzel-long locks, but do they really work? Nobody knows. However, with rosemary oil there is clear scientific evidence that it actually promotes hair growth. Time to take a closer look at this mysterious wonder drug!
TikTok trend
If you are active on social media, you may have noticed the rosemary oil trend. Suddenly just about every TikTokker swears by the stuff, and there seems to be a very good reason for that. It is said to strengthen your locks and even promote your hair growth significantly. To achieve this, you would only need to massage a few drops of oil into your scalp about twice a week.
Expert
Honestly, this all sounds too good to be true, but it really does appear that rosemary oil can actually help your locks grow. Even experts agree. “The rosemary plant contains carnosic acid, which is known to heal nerve and tissue damage and improve cell turnover,” dermatologist Marnie Nussbaum tells Elle. “It stimulates nerve growth and improves blood circulation. The reason why blood circulation is so important for hair growth is that without a good blood supply, the follicles do not get the nutrients they need to grow hair, which can cause them to die.”
Proven
Research shows that rosemary oil is as effective as 2 percent minoxidil. This is an ingredient used to stimulate hair growth. However, the advantage of rosemary oil is that it is milder for the scalp, which means that irritations are less likely to occur. Moreover, you can make it yourself very easily. You can choose from rosemary oil or water. It doesn’t matter which one you use for the result, so choose what you like. You can buy rosemary oil online, but make sure you mix it with another carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil. If you don’t do this, there is a good chance that your scalp will become irritated.
TikTok is full of videos explaining how to make your own rosemary water, like this one:

Usage
With both rosemary oil and water, you should massage it into your scalp for about five minutes twice a week to improve blood circulation. Then leave it in your hair for up to 4 hours and then wash it as you normally do.
Although rosemary oil probably really works, you will have to be patient for the results. It can take six months before you see a difference. Anyway: when you see the before and after photos on TikTok, it’s more than worth it, right?
