This is Princess Beatrix’s surprising favorite meal

No special culinary masterpiece for the princess.

Have you always been curious about what the royal family puts on the table for dinner? That is less luxurious than you might expect. Princess Beatrix, for example, likes simple food, says Countess Eloise of Orange.

Broccoli with rice and chicken

In the online program Samen Cheff by food influencer Daan van der Lecq, the countess elaborates on the eating habits of the royal family. With a grandmother who likes simple food and a mother who, by her own admission, is not a very good cook, those eating habits are not as lavish as we might suspect. Princess Beatrix’s favorite food? That’s just broccoli with rice and chicken, says Eloise.

Despite her preference for simple fare, Princess Beatrix does go all out during the holidays. “We celebrate Christmas at my grandmother’s house. Very tasty food indeed. My grandmother likes simple food, but well made. At Christmas it is a bit more fancy,” says Eloise.

Nostalgia

In Samen Cheffen, Eloise and Daan make French toast, and Eloise has fond memories of that. Her mother Princess Laurentien used to make the sweet breakfast every Sunday. “We actually have brunch every Sunday, the five of us: my brother, sister and my parents. In the past, because my parents were always busy with work and we all had our own busy lives, we would just get together on Sundays to discuss things, no phones, nothing. My mother says she can’t cook, except for this French toast that she makes really great,” said the Countess.

New York

Eloise currently lives in New York. She is doing an internship in the Big Apple for her studies at the higher hotel school. The ‘grave influencer’ enjoys a life here without too much publicity. She was really looking forward to that. “On the street it is logical for people to tap each other. If someone stares longer, it makes me uncomfortable,” she explains. “Then I think: do you recognize me? I am constantly aware of that and I would like to get rid of that feeling.” And it looks like the adventure lives up to her expectations!
